Tally contains some character limits within certain fields. This guidance advises on these limits and potential workarounds if available.

Customer & Supplier Code

These fields have a limit of 12 characters and must be alphanumeric only and contain no special symbols.

Description Field

There is a limit of 4,000 characters while entering data in the description box for a line item on a quote, invoice or purchase.

Workaround

The best way around this is to create different parts of the invoices for the description on the first line item, with the pricing details set in the first part and the second part containing a quantity and rate of 0. For example:

• Part 1 - Price = £100 x Quantity = 1
• Part 2 - Price = £0 x Quantity = 0

The description will then appear to continue from the first line item.
